The King of Pop: Dead at 50

MIchaelThe originator of pop, musical genius, talented actor, and popular culture icon Michael Jackson lays to rest on June 25, 2007. Oficials confirmed that Jackson suffered a bout of cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles home and was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center where he later died.

Michael will be greatly missed and he leaves behind a great legend of musical mastery, a repertoire of excellent performances as well as many music videos that were considered mini movies and not mere music videos. I personally remember watching Michael in concert when I was a youth and wondering how could one man bring so many tyo tears and some who fainted. I was awed and in his absence we are all left with beautiful memories of his great and tragic life.

Amongst Michael’s storied accomplishments one cannot forget his numerous contributions to popular culture today and he single handedly set the standard for performance, production, and humane endeavors by an artist. I will fondly remember his contributions to fashion as well.

Below you will see some of Michaels boldest looks that inspire artists, designers, and the world today.

The infamous Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour allowed Director, R.J. Cutler to chronicle a year in the life of fashion’s most influential being as she and her Vogue cohorts assembled what is known to the world over as the fashion Bible, The September Issue. Hidden behind her trademark blond bob and black sunglasses Cutler reveals the workings of this conquering individual and unveils to the world her passion, poise, and keen eye on fashion as well as her imposing nature that allows her to always get what she wants. I, among many others I am sure, idolize her and I personally love her decisive nature as well as her infinitely chic magazine. Anna has reined at the helm of Vogue for twenty years and does a beautiful job doing so.

Are you breathlessly awaiting the release of “The September Issue?”

So the party must go on!

TalaraLast Friday night me and a few friends went to check out the new Harbor East restaurant that has been making waves in pleasing cool crowd that flock to Harbor East for it’s chic mix of culture, food, and nightlife on the harbor. Talara, Baltimore’s new Latin infused tapas bar and restaurant hosts a happy hour from 10 PM until 1 AM every Friday and Saturday! Boy was I happy to hear this and I am happy that I was able to check this place out before it is swarmed with individuals who would love to have few drinks for a good price on a Friday night! Drink prices top out at $5 as there is a happy hour menu and the same goes for the food. You can also order selections from the regular menu. I sampled the Salmon seviche over sushi which turned out to be a sorta open faced sushi, Divine! The The Sea Scallop wrapped in prosciutto atop a bed of corn polenta was my favorite dish of the evening and I cannot wait to go back to sample more!

I would highly recommend Caipirinha if it is on the cocktail menu. The flavor was just right and I don’t have anything to base it on but Know this, there’s was beautifully made. A lot of people debate how the perfect caipiranhi should be made and I am not one of them but I know that I enjoyed that one. The atmosphere is very much latin robust! Bright colored pictures depicting men playing instruments and some of people just having a good time hang from the ceilings. There is no surface inthe place that has the same color as one you’ve seen already. I loved the vibe and my waitress was very friendly. The thing that lends this place t sure success is the tapas menu. Nothing brings people together like food and when you add in new flavors and portions that are just right for a group to enjoy you have the recipe for a great night of fun with friends.

Will you be attending Talara’s late night happy hour this weekend?Talara 1Talara 2

I Dreamed of this View: Ava Lounge

DreamA few weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking in the view of Manhattan from atop the Dream Hotel’s Ava Lounge! This place is gorgeous. From the lounge you have panoramic views of Manhattan’s Time Square, Columbus Circle, and The Hudson River. After a brunch that allowed me to choose to be inebriated before the hour of 3 PM if I chose to, I sauntered on over to this beauty in the sky.

The lounge was beautifully decorated to resemble the fineries one would liken to the French Riviera and the view from up above on the rooftop was the best. I was so excited to be able to enjoy such a treat. Actually I will indulge in The Dream’s dreams yet again this weekend for a certain event New York is hosting (NYC GAY PRIDE!!!!. I’m gay. Who knew. lol). Hope to see you there!

Will your next Manhattan getaway include a stay at The Dream?DreamDream 1DSCF0059DSCF0066DSCF0087

Fashion Insight: Resort 2010 Alexander Wang

WangSo many are Obsessed with Alexander Wang and after about 6 looks into his Resort 2010 collection I had not one problem understanding why! This man is a simple genius. He simply took fabrics that are not complicated, classic styles that have stood the test of time and played on some of his classic pieces to create a cohesive New York woman. I must say that i am infatuated with her. Some standout pieces for me were the shorts made out of sweat material, simple and new. I love the trench in his first look (Maybe in homage to his recent collaboration with the gap. Go Get It NOW!). The lines were simple and clean and I like the way it was styled for the model. Throughout the collection sweat material was used in new ways that from looking at his ideas, I wonder… Why the heck hasn’t anyone else capitalized on such a comfortable material. With all the craze for “the Legging” I am not surprised to see that one of fashions new great minds has beat all the old greats to the punch.

Sweat material aside there are some great pieces in this collection. The cutout sweater made a return, this time without the mesh underlay and was worn over nice pair of denim shorts. He didn’t relent for evening. There were cute shifts that came draped as well some body conscious pieces. His clothes possess a certain street appeal that I believe many young women will love and a certain class that any woman young or old, business or casual will and does appreciate.

Insight from Bird’s Sight: I Hate When She Smokes!

DSCF0071COmfortably perched among my housing quarters in Brooklyn, NY, I look to the back of this rooftop and who do I see? Her! SOmeone should tell her to lose a few pounds because I’ve been trying to get around her for quite some time now and I still have not been able to do it. Never thought I would be lost in here but here I am. SHe’s a very selective dame indeed, I’ve tried to find a job working with her and believe me when I say, she’s not the most accepting individual. I feel as if i trained to dance with her and she won’t have me as a partner no matter what I do. Still I persist. (Always persist guys!) To no avail as of yet. One thing I can say about this seductress is that she will shun you in one moment and embrace you in the next (Sounds like me). I mean just the other morning I was leaving to go home to Baltimore for a beautiful weekend of friends and a special Sunday with my grand father and out of town relatives, and as I exited the Lincoln Tunnel I looked to my right and what did I see? Her! Exhaling a nights work of whatever seedy business she allows in the hallows of her streets and alley ways through the long nights that have given her the title of the One who keeps no hours. She never sleeps but she parties hard! Hardly aware of anyone other than herself. Cute. This great dame (Lol) is Lady New York if you haven’t figured it out. I have, for some reason, chosen to have a sordid relationship with her this summer. She’s been making me laugh and I’ve been trying to find her heart but it seems that I am coming closer to my own in the process. Can you love in New York? No silly! Lol. I am falling for you Ms. :-)

regina-spektor-far-album-artWow to say that I have been deprived of this great mind would be an understatement! “No one laughs at God in a hospital no one laughs at God in a war,” the opening line to Regina Spektor’s new single, “Laughing With” off of her second studio album, “Far.” Such a controversial stance to take on a song but done in such a delicate manner. I love her breathy voice that has slight hints of  UK background. In this tomb of all of the reasons why one would depend on god she says, no one’s laughing at him. Interestingly simple concept. :-)

Fashion Insight: Resort 2010 MARC JACOBS!

As seen on Style.com

Anyone who is acquainted with me knows that I am infatuated with Marc Jacobs and fashion in general. For Resort 2010 Marc awed us all again. Resort, being the more retail driven season along with pre fall, Marc held back on none of his quirk nor his infinite scroll of references. Old Hollywood and Parisian ease were beat into the cropped jackets, chic striped tops with flowers printed on them. HIs creature of choice for this was that of a toucan. Colorful and abundant on one black dress. You saw peeps of the feathered creature obscured on bags and bedazzled on a black tank. Full skirts and bold prints, floral and abstract, give you the feel of the Parisian vixen he created for Louis Vuitton for fall. This collection will definitely blossom rather it be on a warm tropical isle or any urban oasis. Whether near or far I’m sure we all cannot wait to get a glimpse of these beautiful duds next spring.

Do you love it or what?
