Today is the start of Artscape, the largest free arts festival in the United States. I’m super excited about all the performances that will be going on this weekend, especially Robin Thicke. Of course Artison Magazine is going to be there giving out freebies and handouts. If you are in or around the Baltimore area you definitely need to get out to Artscape.

A Quick Fix for the Junkie in YOU

Wasalu Muhammad Jaco is back at it again. Lupe Fiasco is expected to release his newest album in late 2009. His latest single called “Shining Down” features Lupe’s go to guy, Mathew Santos. The song is frickin AWESOME. Santos has been featured on other Lupe Fiasco tracks like ” Streets on Fire”, “Fighters”, and “American Terrorist”. His notoriety came from Lupe’s hit single “Superstar”, which reached number 3 on the Billboard rap charts.
However what really is important is the music. Mathew’s vocals smoothed out the live instrumentals that were mildly laced with synthetic beats which makes it more than your average hip-hop song. The song is head bobbing to the end. Surprisingly,the haunting tones of Santos voice relaxes you, to make the song just the perfect thing to listen to after a long day at work.Lupe’s lyrics are on point as usual; with metaphors and similes that make your head spin, you can appreciate the quality of music he puts out.

A lot has happened since the last time I’ve written a blog. A new month came along, its no longer June, now we’re racing though the month of July. A few more celebrities hit the dust. ( I know it sounds incredibly insensitive) The Oxy-Clean guy died, along with Steve McNair, the former Baltimore Raven quarterback; better known for his span as a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans. From the news reports, its sounds like either his wife or his 20 year old mistress offed him. Either way it really sucks.
Along with all the celebrity drama, there has been some civil-unrest in the Studio d’ Art camp. Enough to stage a mini coup and ditch the old company for a new and improved model. I like to think of it as moving in another direction. As Obama said ” The winds of change have come”, and that wind blew a large group in one direction, and others in another. I think it was way over do. In times of adversity all one can do it get stronger. Amelioration is one of my favorite words. It means to make better or improve. That is exactly what we have been doing. No long bogged down by all the negativity. We’re just gonna keep it positive from now on; moving in that right direction. It may be hard, but in the end; it will all be worth it.

I regret to inform you that the King of Pop, Michael Jackson died today at the age of 50. It is still unclear what the exact conditions of his death were, however, what is known, is that he passed away due to cardiac arrest. The legacy of Michael Jackson is a lasting one. No matter what your personal opinion of his character was, there is still no disputing, that Michael Jackson’s music was transcending and influential. He will be greatly missed; one of the greatest icon’s of our time.

Studio d’ Art is definitely making major moves right now. Yesterday at 3 o’clock, the Big Boss Man, Marvin Mason, Head of Entertainment, James Tibbs, and myself hit the radio-waves hard on a local radio talk-show called Taxi Talk. The show is normally hosted by Larry the Celebrity Cab driver on 1010am, but he “let the young people lead”, allowing is co-host to conduct our interview. With the fabulous new co-host, Toya the Young Ambassador at the reigns we navigated our way through our first interview.
Overall the interview was successful. We had a lot of networking opportunities and loads of positive feed-back. We were not only invited back to Taxi Talk , but also another radio talk show.

Did you hear the news?
Jon and Kate Plus 8, is now Jon and Kate plus DIVORCE. The two have finally called it quits after months of rumors and front pages stories that questioned Jon and Kate’s fidelity. Its a sad end to an almost 4 season hot streak of family fun and togetherness. It is currently undecided whither there will be another season. So stay tuned for more info.
On to the second piece of juicy gossip.
Have you ever seen the commercials with an old man giving away huge checks to unsuspecting people for millions of dollars? Well, that guy actually has a name, Ed McMahon. Kicking off his career as Johnny Carson’s go to man on the “Tonight Show”; Mr. McMahon has been around. For us younger people, Johnny Carson is a bit before our time, but we definitely remember the Publisher Clearinghouse commercials. It really sucks, but at least he lived a long life of 86 years. So so sad 
On to the last bit of tantilyzing information about our favorite celebs. Personally I am a huge football fan, so to me, this bit of gossip is “muy interesante“. Donté Stallworth from the Cleavland Browns, got a DUI for drunk driving in Mami after a night of partying. He pled guilty and got off virtually scott-free. I didn’t know that you could murder a 59 year old construction worker and only get 30 days in jail. Even though the short jail time was not the only treat he got for the crime; he also has to serve two years of house arrest, eight years of probation and 1,000 hours of community service. Sounds like a walk in the park. If you got money, you can do anything.

Usher and Tameika No More
OMG. Have you heard the news! Usher Raymond, the king of R&B, has finally divorced that old hag of a wife, Tameika Foster! According my sources, Usher filed for divorce on Friday, then preceded to go chill with some friends at the club. Ladies, its time to do our happy dance, Usher is free again. A new album for Usher is also in the works…so stay tuned to see whats new from the King.
I’m sure there will be something about the something on the website about breaking story.
A music addicts MUST HAVES

I am a music lover to the billionth degree. I have a G clef tatted on my ankle, direct a youth choir, and plan on minoring in music theory , so it is obvious that this whole music thing is a serious part of my life. So when I say a song is hott, it is really hott, and right now I have about 2 favorites that I need to add to Misty (my i pod) asap. Well anyway, the first is a song by Kings of Leon called Use Somebody. It plays those chords that just make you feel good about yourself. When I attempt to sing it, I string some mumbles together and interspersedly add a few “use somebody’s”. Its kinda sad, but I rarely remember lyrics to songs. I should hold my head down in shame. However, it doesn’t matter cause good music is good music, and this definitely gets two big thumbs up.
The second song is by DJ Class featuring Kanye West called I’m the S*%#@. Now this song, I’m sorry to say, falls far from my normally high musical standards, but the beat is so ridiculous that I just had to put it on. This is one of those songs that as soon as it comes on, everyone is on the dance floor shaking whatever their mama gave them. Doing the two step or the crazy legs (a Baltimore dance), its all good with this song.

I’m kinda pissed cause I can’t get s super sick blogger name like Lola Mckissy, that is both eye catching and sexy. But I guess blogger names become more like an alternate personality rather then a persons real interpretation of life. In any event, this blog is going to give you a better idea of the inner workings of Studio d’ Art magazine. It is that real life, nitty gritty stuff that you don’t get to see/ hear with the finished project; but I assure you, there will be tons of drama. Enough to stratify any drama queen.
